Evaluation of unit reinforces evidence of assessment objectives for AO 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4

Additional evaluation comments written by Abby in her Photography booklet for unit 2 but more appropriate too unit 1:

In photography this term I have learned so much. I have learned to use a camera properly and I have learned thing I didn’t know about lenses and how different one work or go with a camera. I have experimented with pictures and filters outside of collage and made some progress with help from my peers. I have had good feedback from my classmates about most of my work and thought about what I need to improve on.  First, I need a camera witch I should have one by Christmas which means I can practise using a camera at home. The thing I like most about this subject is that I have learned how to use a camera and how lenses work. I have learned more things about technology and so much about how most photos are taken on different devices / cameras.

I think choosing photography as a subject was a good choice. But as I am still really trying to improve on my work as my other classmates are fantastic at this it will take me some time, but I think that with the help of my classmates and teachers I think I will get to a good point in photography with my work.  Being told I am doing good in photography is amazing to me as I am not good at most subjects I am doing right now.  I know I can improve my work if I really push it and I am willing to do whatever it takes to do that .

    UNIT 2

Develop and adapt photographic ideas (T/506/0070)

COVERSHEET / ASSESSMENT / TUTOR COMMENTS / GRADE: NYA

ABBY'S UNIT 2 PORTFOLIO Develop and Adapt Photographic Ideas (T/506/0070)
    SEQUENTIAL / NARRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY

    1.1 Research Photographers’ images.

1.2  Describe the photographers’ methods and use of visual language

this image is of cony island. Its mainly a beach with a carnival  thing going on. The photographer is stephen wilkes.  Stephen Wilkes is an American photographer born in 1957. He started photography at the age of 12. Then, he studied at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he graduated with a bachelor of science in photography.   An example of sequential photography in this photo is that the people are going to either the carnival or the beach. it is busy and full of people and positive space. Im not so sure on the shutter speed but im guessing maybe a fast shutter speed to make the image look clear o make the image slower so it gets the image of the people or the carnival lights. The photos have been edited with lighting for sure. I like that the image is very cheerful with the lights and everything I don’t really like the sky coloure in the back where the building blocks are. Almost looks like a thunder storm or rain storm. I have found out he took a lot of photos in a day and then put them all together to make this photo so it shows the full day and night. the shutter speed is slower in the night photos and the shape of the fairground big wheel stands out being so bright.

Photographer Duane Michals to talk at W&M on March 19 | William & Mary  this image is of the bathroom and the book story. The photographer is Daune michealsDuane Michals is an American photographer who’s work is largely based around photo-sequences, often incorporating text to examine emotion and philosophy. From Wikipedia : Though he has not been involved in gay civil rights, his photography has addressed gay themes.

An example of sequential photography here  is that daune has the images of the bathroom but it looks like its in a book then it looks like ist in a picture frame then its real. The shutter speed again probably fast as the images would of needed to be took quick because of the way he wanted the photos to turn out. the lighting is interesting as it makes the pages stand out in the book and shows the white inn the photos. I like the way the photos have been sorted out in an order and I also like the way he tells the story.  it is clever and makes me want to look at them more. It is like an illusion.

This image is of the man and the 3 emotions. The photographer is
greg orlovAn example of sequential photography is that he is stood in a line showing his different emotions witch looks like shocked

fustrated and sad. The shutter speed used is again probably quite fast or normal as the photos are in focus but it is dark around him so it needs to be right for the focus to be taken for these kind of shots. The lighting has definatley been edited in my opinion to make the background more dark. I like the way the photos show his different emotions but the photos could have alos been a little bit lighter along with more emotions.  the gap at the end is like a missing piece.

2.1  Develop ideas using a range of sources

The images ive chose are all images of sequential photography all show either a sport or a daily task some people normally do during the day. It's clever that some use phot shop to put the same item in one photo to show all the movements.

An idea of a good sequential photogropher is daune michals. His art is really inspiring just to look at along with stephen wilkes who made a piece of art of a carnival kinda thing on cony island witch is a famous american place. Coney Island is a peninsular neighborhood and entertainment area in the southwestern section of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The neighborhood is bounded by Brighton Beach to its east, Lower New York Bay to the south and west, and Gravesend to the north, and includes the subsections of Sea Gate to its west and Brighton Beach to its east hits photo shows how popular it is thortugh one day and night..

    1. 2.1  Develop ideas using a range of sources

    2. 2.2  Produce exploratory images

IDEAS FOR MY OWN SEQUENTIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

A day in the life of lockdown. Abby reynolds

I deas : sleep  walking  studying   dancing  looking out the window  cooking   makeup   chores.

start off with day one .. a task for each day.

    Day 1.

Lockdown take 2. Theres nothing much to do considering were in lockdown again. National lockdown this time and for most people including me im sick of all this too. So what could be bettere than just to sleep right. Some days im acctually not that lazy .. i get up and do things .. cook make breakfast study .. But all that comes soon:} Mainly when im not doing all these things i sit and watch netflix or mainly doctor who. A personal faveourite. But like i said others days im really productive.. and do things around my home.

    Day 2.

Walking. The activity is pretty fun i mean you walk about all the time weather it be indoors or out sometimes tho i like to just walk in the woods explore nature a little or just walk about outside for fresh air. Not many people like walking far some do .. i like going on long hikes and exploring new things for sure. It takes my mind of alot of things supprisingly. Maybe thats a main thing for most people the more they walk or something the more there mind starts to wounder and ofc its not a bad thing .. maybe your a youtuber looking for ideas but instead you go on a walk and ideas come flooding through your barin quicker .. or you could be doing course work and need some more ideas for the paragraph your writing. It all helpes when you think about it.

    Day 3.

Studying. Ilike to study alot it helps with things i have to catch up on or revise. It sometimes can be stressfull but thats all with the studying process i guess. It can be really easy at times tho . Like if your studying for an exam on something you know really well then of course your gonna get what your studying about staright away. But other times its not that simple. You could be studying math and like me im nooo good at the subject. Some nights i sit and read books and that helps alot because well it gives me ideas for maybe a writing task in english or just to write about anything.

    Day 4.

Dancing isnt really my thing unless im bored and want to just prance about in my bedroom. Or as most teenagers my age .. they dance on tiktok. I used to dance in like year 6 or something but that was when i was really into dancing .. now i just kinda take the miky out of dancing.

    Day 5.

Looking out the window. This has got to be my favourite thing. Im litarally sat at the window just staring out. And even tho its the same view as before i just imagen what it would be like if it wasnt. Like the sea or the clouds .. I normally sit out the window at night just to gaze at the stars or the moon . Its very relaxing when you have alot on your mind and want to just forget .. just sit at the window and gaze at the stars or the moon {when its out}.

    Day 6.

Chores. Got to love parents when you just finish something like homework and you want to relax and they come in your room and their like go down stairs and wash the pots for me .. Like sure cause i wanna rest today . Sometimes thats not the case tho i mean i will go do the chores when im bored or havent got homework to do. Some times i get asked other times i dont or mostly i dont do them because im forever changing the way my room looks.

    Day 7.

Ive never really been a big fan of makeup. But its weird because growing up ive always wanted makeup and to look pretty. My first ever makeup kit i got was from my grandad a long time ago and he said you kept asking so i got you it for christmas. I was sooo happy with it and to this day the case that it came in i still have filled with other make up items. Im not really a lover of make up .. sure i have a daft half an hour with it and mess on with eye shadow but i dont wear it every day like most people do. Its more my sister who loves the make up more than me but she acts like more of a girl then me.

    Day 8.

Excersize. sometimes when i have nothing on okay i go for a run or a jog and its really relaxing. Sure you fel skinny after it because maybe you havent been for a run in a while but its really fun. You can even do excersizes aroung the house when your bored like run up and down the stairs 3 times or something or run about in your back or front garden 3 times .. Maybe you just want to eat healthy so like you could have a salad some nights or just something healthy. Its all really intresting when it comes to it because many people have some inspiring ideas maybe on instagram to have a look at or just use the internet.

    Day 9.

Music. Music has always been a faveourite thing of mine and a big part of my life. From being a baby to now id always want to discover new music or new types of music and the music id find id always be really interested in. When i was about 12 i loves micheal jackson and every song id listen to would be of his. Then as i grew up it was an american rappy XXXTentacion. id be obbsessed with his music and still am to this day . Now as most people know im obbsessed with the band The1975 and of course my faveourite person Matty Healy. Xs music helps with depression and just mental health really and the 1975s helps me when i want to get out of my mood and be happy :].

    Last day 10.

    FEEDBACK GIVEN:

I love how you’ve approached this Abby and what I’ve done here is suggest how you can turn some of these into separate photography sequences.  We ca discuss idea in a Teams one to one on Thursday:

    Idea 1:

CHORES: Photograph chores needing to be done and getting done:

    Such as

the pile of washing up waiting to be done.

Take a photo of you preparing the sink with water and washing up liquid.

Take a photo of the pots in the washing up bowl and then the pots all drying on the side...

and if you put them away after show the clear space where the mess once was!

    Idea 2:  EVERY CORNER

On your walk take a photo of every corner you turn.  So every time you get to a corner – take a photo showing it.  Think. about what to show - treat these as landscape photos so they are nice long / wide shots showing clear backgrounds such as roads, houses street signs, etc.

    Idea 3: MUSIC

Take a series of selfies as you listen to your music to capture your reactions and even you singing.  You could even video yourself and then you could get freeze frames from the video. This could be compared nicely to the emotions photos we looked at.
